Kate McGee, Owner

With several years of public policy experience, including for the cities of London, San Francisco, and Vancouver, Kate provides a unique 'insider'​ understanding on current issues within the public sector. Kate has worked with the Bay Area's most influential planners and land use attorneys and her unique ability to work within public and private sector forums give clients a strategic edge in project management. Forever the urbanist, Kate has lived in Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, London and Paris. She currently resides in San Francisco.

Worked with developers, brokers and attorneys on project entitlements for large-scale projects in San Francisco's downtown area.


Planner, San Francisco Planning Department

Working in both current planning and long range policy divisions over the course of 13 years, Kate's responsibilities included:

  • Reviewing building permits and land use entitlement applications
  • Presenting applications before the Planning Commission, the Board of Supervisors, neighborhood groups and local community groups
  • Developing policy, legislation and programs 
  • Working extensively on zoning, planning code controls and regulations

      Projects

  • Drafted the Executive Park Sub Area Plan which includes 1500 housing units
  • Revised San Francisco's Residential Design Guidelines
  • Created the Balboa Park Plan Implementation Program and Area Plan - created the nexus study that resulted in development impact fees and the policy document that guides future growth
  • Lead Planner and Project Manager for the Northeast Embarcadero Study
  • Wrote the Environmental Policies Chapter for the draft Central SoMa Area Plan
  • Created the Planning Department's Sustainable Development Program
  • Planned infrastructure for the SF Giants Mission Rock project
  • Numerous residential and commercial development projects

Helped to prepare the London Underground's rolling stock for the company's forthcoming public private partnership.

Helped to receive government support for SRO development and maintenance in Vancouver's downtown eastside.
